How to Update Slack Profile Fields (Desktop & Mobile)

Updated August 7, 2026

Adjust your Slack profile fields, add personal details, and understand what owners or admins can lock down.

A complete profile helps teammates recognize you quickly and find the right contact details. Take a minute to refresh your information, and remember to pair it with a friendly profile photo so people can match names to faces.

What You Can Edit

Most Slack profiles can include:

  • Full name and display name
  • Job title and pronouns
  • Name recording and pronunciation hints
  • Phone number and time zone

Workspaces may also add custom fields such as team, location, or emergency contacts.

Locked fields: anything marked with a lock icon is managed by a workspace owner or admin. Ask them if you need an update.

Update Your Profile on Desktop

  1. Click your avatar in the sidebar.
  2. Choose Profile, then select Edit.
  3. Update any fields that need attention.
  4. Click Save Changes to publish the updates.

Update Your Profile on Mobile

  1. Tap your avatar at the top of the mobile app.
  2. Choose View Profile, then tap Edit Profile.
  3. Refresh the fields you want to change.
  4. Tap Save when you’re done.

Mobile limitation: custom profile fields created by your workspace can only be edited on desktop.
