How to Set Your Time Zone in Slack

Updated August 7, 2026

How to change your time zone in Slack on desktop and mobile, why it matters for notifications and scheduling, and how to keep it from resetting when you travel.

Your Slack time zone controls when notifications reach you and how local times appear on messages and reminders. Unlike most profile details, it lives in your preferences rather than the Edit Profile screen.

Change your time zone on desktop

  1. Click your profile picture in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Open Language & region.
  4. Under Time zone, choose your correct zone from the dropdown.

Your change saves automatically.

Change your time zone on mobile (iOS & Android)

  1. Tap You in the bottom-right corner.
  2. Tap Preferences (or Settings).
  3. Open Advanced or Language & region, depending on your app version.
  4. Set your time zone.

Keep it from resetting when you travel

Slack can update your time zone automatically based on your device location. That’s handy if you want local times to follow you, but frustrating if you’d rather keep one fixed zone. You can turn the automatic setting off under Language & region so your time zone stays put.

Why it’s worth getting right

An incorrect time zone quietly causes problems: reminders fire at the wrong hour, scheduled messages land at odd times, and teammates misjudge when you’re online. It’s a two-second fix that prevents a lot of small annoyances.

Time zone is part of a complete, accurate profile. While you’re in there, it’s worth checking the rest — see how to update your Slack profile fields.

For teams that care about complete profiles across the board, Tidybot keeps member profiles filled in by reminding anyone who’s missing required details.
