The Slack Default Profile Picture, Explained

What is the default Slack profile picture?
The default Slack profile picture is a placeholder that appears next to your name whenever you haven't uploaded a photo. It's a solid colored square showing your initials — Slack builds it automatically from the display name on your profile.
You'll see these default avatars all over a workspace: in the sidebar, in channels, in threads, and in direct messages. They're functional, but they make it harder to tell teammates apart at a glance.
What do the default avatars look like?
Each default avatar is a square block of a single background color with your initials centered in white. Slack picks the color for you based on your account, so different members get different colors. There's no gallery of default images to choose from — it's simply your initials on a colored tile.
Can you change the default profile picture color?
