How to Add Name Pronunciation in Slack
How to add a phonetic spelling and a name recording to your Slack profile so teammates can say your name correctly, on desktop and mobile.
Getting someone’s name right matters, and Slack has a built-in way to help. You can add a written pronunciation guide and, from the mobile app, an audio recording of your name.
Add a written pronunciation on desktop
- Click your profile picture in the top-right corner.
- Select Profile, then Edit Profile.
- In the Name pronunciation field, type a phonetic spelling (for example, “AH-nyah” for Anja).
- Click Save Changes.
Record your name on mobile (iOS & Android)
The audio recording is captured in the mobile app:
- Tap You in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap your profile picture, then Edit Profile.
- Find the name recording option and tap to record a short clip of you saying your name.
- Save your changes.
Once added, teammates see the phonetic spelling on your profile and can play your recording to hear it.
